Severe weather strikes!
I'm sitting on a tiny ledge in front of the dryer in my apartment’s laundry room. I'm here mostly because it's a really cool place to chill out when I don't want to do my homework, and also because the tornado siren went off. Every three minutes I start shaking because an old out-of-balance washing machine goes into spin cycle, and every fifteen minutes the timer for the lights runs out and I panic, thinking we’ve lost power. It’s a good place to be if you want to maximize your storm experience, as you can be in a thunderstorm, tornado, and earthquake all at the same time.
A half hour before the sirens began, we saw lightning and heard an overpowering roll of thunder that lasted nearly ten seconds. It cracked, then split apart from the very top all the way down to the foundations. I started dancing around the living room, overcome with excitement at the thought of watching the storm through our patio doors with a couple candles and an endless supply of food. I made my roommate laugh, but now it’s passed, and I’ve missed the entire display of dihydrogen monoxide torrents.
